Community Centre Update

You are here: Home / News / Community Centre Update

Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) and Abbotswood Community Association (ACA) are working closely on the transfer of the legal ownership of Abbotswood Community Centre from the Abbotswood Development Consortium. Unfortunately delays with the legal transfer between the consortium of developers for the Abbotswood Community Centre means TVBC is unable to grant ACA occupation of the building until this legal transfer has been completed.

ACA are extremely disappointed in the delay to the delivery of this centre. We ask that local residents and potential centre users please bear with us at this time and as soon as we have confirmation of the hand over we will let you know, we are optimistic to move this forward as soon as possible. On completion of the handover ACA will need time to equip the Centre and ensure it is fit for purpose for hirers and users.

All resident and users will be invited to a formal opening event, to showcase this exciting community asset.

ACA trustees were fully expecting to take control of the community building in mid-July ready to open for September 2017. We continue to work with TVBC to push this forward and take on the building as soon as possible. Unfortunately this delay, which has only recently come to light to us, is completely unexpected and out of our hands. We are doing all we can to support TVBC in getting the issue resolved and opening the centre as soon as possible. Unfortunately it does mean at this stage we are unable to confirm or commit to the opening in time for the new September term that we have been working so hard to achieve for potential hirers, which we are extremely disappointed about.

On a positive note, despite this frustrating set back, we will continue to work forwards and are fully committed to bringing this long awaited building to the community. The Trustees continue to make good progress in being able to open the building as soon as possible once it becomes available to us. We are always looking for new Trustees to assist us across a range of areas as we take forward the Association so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at community@abbotswoodromsey.co.uk
